Hey all,
I’ve been working on a project by myself for a while, it’s going well but taking a long time as I’ve to learn a lot of the technologies as I go - which is great for learning but not so much for productivity.
The project is essentially a price comparison application, I always saw it as a business opportunity but now I’m considering to put my ego aside and go OpenSource and try to get others to help out.
- How do you decide it’s the right time to go OpenSource?
- Is it stupid to fear someones going to take my idea and monetise it before I do?
- Are there any downsides to going OpenSource?
- Are they’re any legal/licence formalities that I need to consider so that I remain the “owner” of the project?
- How can I get people to contribute if I do go Open Source?
These questions might seen stupid but I’ve never worked with FOSS software before, would be great to get ideas!
