When discussions come up here about supporting the network, people always say one or two things: run a node, and mine. This has always irked me a bit and I’ll explain why.

I believe that there are three main ways to support the network:

1. Host a node
2. Mine
3. Use monero for everyday transactions

One and two are mentioned constantly in our community, but three, which I argue is the most important, is not talked about nearly enough.

Some points supporting why using monero for your purchases whenever you can is the best way to support the network:

• monero is supposed to be a private CURRENCY. No amount of mining or hosting nodes will drive adoption of monero. Privacy is very important, but what is the point of a private currency if we aren’t actually using it? We should be focussing on increasing the flow of monero in the economy such that it becomes more like a currency and less like a speculative investment. This is already our greatest strong suit compared to other cryptos, but we are still nowhere close to fiat levels of currency flow
• using monero secures the network from potential spam attacks. Some people here theorized that the spam attack might have been an attempt to break ring signatures. More natural transactions makes it such that less transactions are known to potential bad-actors.

So how do we go about increasing usage? -If you run a business of any kind, start accepting monero as a form of payment. -utilize some of the multiple services that allow purchasing items on amazon using monero. -selling something on craigslist? Accept monero as payment! -taking donations for a project/charity? Accept monero as payment! -get creative! I would love to hear all of your ideas about how we could use monero more an a daily basis.
