Context: I just started skiing again mid-season this year after a 25 year break. I skied throughout my childhood and twenties but stopped once I moved away from New England. Now I am a 52 year old broad rediscovering my love for skiing.

Yesterday, I took the day off to go skiing. I always start off easy because I am just getting back into this so I went to a blue trail that I have skied often. I swear to god, my life passed before my eyes as my soul left my body several times. It was so hard and icy that I felt like I had no control whatsoever and I seriously contemplated asking ski patrol for help down. I couldn’t even really snow plow! I made it but WOOF. After that, I kind of dicked around at the lodge for a while, took some calls, and then went back out around 11:30. By that time, the snow had softened up and the rest of the day was amazing.

So my question is how? How does one ski on icy hardpack? I realize that I should already know this, having grown up skiing on the ice coast but maybe my brain is blocking out that trauma haha.
