Apart from pinching pennies the main reason I’ve stopped going out is because I seemed to run into more and more dickheads.

I’m a big guy and I know how to throw a punch but I’m a pacifist and obviously getting into a fight ruins your night whether or not you win.

The last few times I went out in Northbridge and the city I had people not only chatting shit as I walked past but deliberately bumping me, trying to instigate a confrontation. Often smaller guys in their little rat packs. I would ignore it or offer a few diplomatic words ‘mate I came out to have a good night, find someone who’s looking for a fight’ usually enough to eventually get them to shift their focus away but the last time I was in northbridge I had some stranger square up and push me and I had to walk away. Also got chased by a bunch of indigenous teenagers while I was walking home, luckily they gave up pretty quick but I was pretty shaken and stirred

There are cops around the place but they never seem to be there when there’s actually shit going down. Or maybe it’s no coincidence, and their presence is the deterrent, but I’ve had a few friends with similar stories from northbridge and the city recently.

Even once inside the clubs, there seem to be so many aggressive manimals roaming around these days just looking for a chance to prove how hard they are. It really kills the atmosphere. It’s why I stopped going to places like The Lookout, I just couldn’t stand the attitude and aggression. Go join an MMA gym and fight people who want to fight, not strangers on a night out.

Recently I was walking through Scabs with my mum and sister at about 10pm a bunch of drunk eshays started screaming shit and trying to intimidate us…these weren’t 15 year olds, they looked like they were in their 20’s at least.

Shit like this just puts you on edge the whole time youre out which defeats the point of going out to enjoy yourself.

Anyway, which areas / clubs / bars / venues / events / festivals generally have the best crowds?

So far Leederville seems the safest and best atmosphere or at least I haven’t had issues there yet.

Which areas do you avoid?
