My husband’s mum, dad and sister are honestly the worst gift givers. I do not mind second hand, cheap or even free gifts if care and thought has gone into it. But this is never the case.for example my birthday is January and every year I receive discount Christmas items. Last birthday i got a Christmas pudding candle with a 25p sticker on. This year they all completely disregarded my husband’s birthday not even a call, they forgot their own sons birthday and this isn’t the first time.

They promised to get our son who’s 9 a football Tshirt he wanted. It was two months late, and was a plain shirt that someone on FB had made with a transfer on it that was peeling off.

Every birthday and Christmas is the same. They will ask you what you want and then make sure to get the cheapest version they can find to the point we’re it isn’t usable. I will also point out for context these people are well off.

So this year we have started doing the same, and I’m not going to lie it has given me so much joy.

For years we have given them exactly what they asked for (because we are people pleasers) but after buying them very nice items and receiving either nothing, or absolute tosh back we are no longer people pleasing. We really feel taken advantage of when it comes to gifts.

This year his mum asked for a garden parasol and sent us the link to one she wanted which was £90. We found a plastic one on Amazon which came in these garish primary colours for 8.99 and my husband and I had to try so hard to contain our laughter as she opened it. I honestly thought I was going to turn inside out from holding it in.

This week was his sisters birthday and she asked us for a specific floor lamp that was £50 so my husband found the cheapest random floor lamp he could find and just got that instead.

At the end of the day I don’t feel like T A because we are only doing to them what they have done to us for years, but something feels so horrendously cruel about it. (and a little bit funny)
