I tried a whole bunch of ways to clean the trash cans but the maggots kept coming back. I tried bleach but the maggots lived a shocking long time in a bleech water solution, I tried killing them with a stick, I tried flame thrower using hair spray which was awesome but ineffective. finally tried boiling. The thick trash cans are tough so they can take the heat.
