TLDR; what is the part near the touchpad in the image circled and can I remove it

Just got the framework laptop 13 factory seconds and I love it! besides that, I’ve had a useful tradition of putting trackers in my laptops, and it’s proven to be helpful when I undoubtedly have left it somewhere or need to know where in a room it is. In the past, I have used older repairable thinkpads for my daily driver, and in those cases I could hide the tracker in the 2.5 inch HDD bay back when they were a thing. As my next repairable laptop, the framework looked like a nice choice compared to the 2015 thinkpad ultrabook I was using for too long.

I am trying to put the smarttag (I was able to shorten it down to the size in the picture, yet I had to remove the speaker) next to the left framework speaker but the part which I circled is in the way. I am not really sure what it does, so I’m wondering if I can take it out. It seems to fill in empty space, but I can’t verify that anywhere online. I’ve looked everywhere for details on what this part is (even the cad files) and yet I don’t know what it’s for or if there is a feasible way of taking it out

I know I can put it in an expansion card, yet that’s not something I want to do as I’ll just have to remove it later as the laptop only has 4 slots, and taking one away is limiting.

Yes, that is USPS packing tape on the smarttag holding the battery in place. It’s free with free shipping, and it’s durable and heat and water resistant. And, free is free.
