Why do we not like centralized pools hogging too much hashrate percentage?

  • 51% attack
  • mining blocks that consists of only their spam txs
    • basically, chain bloat + depriving honest miners

Designing pool resistance won’t work. There’s already a pool up for Wownero mining. So, that approach won’t work. As long as solo mining is allowed, imo, we’re not getting rid of pools.

IMO, the core of the issue is miner’s ability to choose what transactions to include in the block.

This is where P2Pool comes to the rescue. Essentially, it will act as a decentralized authority for block templates.

  • Big pools will still exist. However, their impact is significantly reduced. At the end of the day, they will still be mining on P2Pool. Trying to do any shenanigans will get them kicked out of the network.

The only concern (that I can think of) is privacy. Could that be solved by something similar to stealth address?

edit: Basically, I’m arguing to make P2Pool as the only way of mining.
