My employer recent changed time off requests so that whenever we request time off, we have to also use the available PTO we have accrued at that moment to get it approved.
Soooo if I want to ask for time off 6 months in advance, I have to have the PTO right NOW for it. Not whatever I accrue in the 6 months before officially taking that time off. (We accrue based on employment status and time with company. I currently accrue about 4 hours a pay period or about 8-12 hours a month)
They also ask for As MuCh NoTiCe aS pOsSiBLe and shared many times “if you know you need time off, even a year from now, put it in please so we can plan around it”
Welllll, if I want to take off in 6 months but don’t have the 32 hours RIGHT NOW but I will definitely accrue in 6 months time………….you’re not getting much notice from me! lol You’ll hear from me 2 weeks before I’m off, thank youuuu No more 6 months or year in advance like I used to to give!
To clarify- it used to be that at the start of the year I would submit any and all the time I planned I would need off for the year (vacations, weddings, holidays etc) that way my team could make sure to know my dates and essentially plan around them way in advance. Then I would submit PTO a week in advance of the effective pay period to ensure I would get paid for the time during the pay period I was taking off. No harm no foul. I always had the PTO.
