Saturday night, out on the town with some friends. One introduced us to another group. One of the guys I’d never met took an instant interest in me. “what’s the weather like up there”, “was that shirt a donation”, and the final one “did your mum cut your hair”. I decided to throw that one back at him due to him having a terrible balding haircut. I said “no, your mum did after she was done blowing me”. I know, pretty tasteless but I’d already had a few and the guy was annoying me.

His demeanor instantly changed and he shouts “NEVER mention my mothers name” and then gets dragged off by one of his friends. Turns out his mother had died a couple of months ago. Our mutual friend went to see if he was OK and apparently he was crying quite badly.

As I said, I didn’t know the guy, but felt a little guilty afterwards. AITA?

Edit: my mum is also currently dying of cancer which is why I felt guilty as I feel his pain slightly. But him making a mum joke specifically didn’t bother me, was more that’d he’d been at me for a while and I didn’t know him.
