Earlier today I went to my sisters room to look for something ( she bought food for the cat and I couldn’t find it so I went to her room to check if she left it there ).

Now for context, my sister has a VERY messy room. She throws trash under her bed and mold grows in her room too. Her floors are covered in dirt and she has dirty laundry and dishes everywhere, it’s extremely bad. My mom has cleaned her room several times and also hired a domestic worker to help out, but it never gets better. My sis only cleans when she has company over. Anyway, as I was searching for the food I found something that belonged to me that I was missing for months. I was beyond pissed off because I even asked her about it and she claimed she didn’t see it. She was at school so I confronted her over text and as usual, she didn’t respond.

Her room was actually in a pretty bad state so I decided to clean it for her to help her out. In the process I found out that she had been stealing from my business ( I run a home-based bakery ) and I found a total of 16 chocolate wrappers under her bed. I was FURIOUS. Stealing from me is one thing, but stealing from my business is another.

Here’s where I may be an AH. I already knew that confronting her would not do anything, so I took pictures of what she stole and sent it to our family group and expressed how pissed off I was ( it only has our immediate family in it/household family ). My parents were upset as well and said they would talk to her about it ( this also doesn’t do anything ).

I was so upset and almost in tears from shock and anger also because I would let her work for me and help me out with orders and here she was stealing from me. She even had the audacity to tell me that I ran out of chocolate when she was literally stealing and eating them.

Anyway, I decided to forgive her in my heart and continued cleaning her room which took me roughly 3 hours. When she came home she had already read all the messages ( our private chats and family group ) and went straight to her room to cry. She didn’t speak to anyone and only left her room to fetch food.

I understand that she is most likely suffering from mental health issues, but she has a history of stealing ( clothes, snacks, miscellaneous items etc ) and my mom even took her to therapy and she lost interest in going. I was so incredibly fed up with her and hurt that she abused my trust and I reacted out of anger.

AITA ?
