Duran didn’t betray anyone in the act of pledging himself to the UED. The Confederacy was no longer an entity at that time, and even if it were - fighting the Dominion is precisely what it or its remnants would have done. I know this may have been written to give DuGalle a litte arc of warming up to Duran (which we know he ultimately did - to tragic results for Alexei), and to establish a Chekov’s gun character defining moment of his lack of tolerance for perceived traitors, but I still never saw a justified reason for Gerard’s initial hostility towards Duran. Did anything happen in the meantime that I’ve missed for all these years?
