Context: In a short space of time I’ve suddenly become interested in clojure, elixir, scala, kotlin and even older languages like erlang and lisp. I’m just wondering if this is going to be an endless cycle of new languages, or whether many of these newer languages coincided with some kind of industrial event.

For example, did functional programming languages receive huge attention by the industry after Google published its Map Reduce paper?

I guess I could even include “existing language, but new attention/hype” (e.g. Haskell).
