Original Title: TIL Henrietta Wood who was enslaved in the American South until her owner, Jane Cirode, took her to Ohio in 1844. After being re-enslaved in 1853, Wood successfully sued her captor, Zebulon Ward, in 1869 and was awarded $2,500 – the largest slavery restitution in U. S. history.
