So l’ve been trying to play KOTOR 1 on the Deck recently but the PC version requires a lot of work to get it to play in widescreen and even once you have that working the controls are pretty awful. The PC version simply isn’t designed with a controller in mind.

After that, I tried emulating the Xbox version, but that requires hex editing to get working properly as well, and runs quite poorly, lagging once you get to Taris and also doesn’t look great.

My solution is to go a different way - Android emulation, using Waydroid.

This version of the game has numerous benefits - native widescreen support, controller support, high resolution, and is designed to work on a portable device. I was skeptical as I haven’t seen this method anywhere but it actually works REALLY well.

Basically, you follow this thread’s guide to install the Android emulator, Waydroid. This is super simple process.

From there, you just sign into the Google Play store, download (you will have to purchase the game if you haven’t already obviously) the game, and you’re good to go.

So far, it seems to play at a somewhat steady 40fps with some very manageable drops to about 37-38fps. This is perfectly acceptable to me considering the benefits compared to the alternative ways to play.

Hope this helps anyone else that wasn’t satisfied with the other ways to play one of the best games ever made!
