this maybe a bit controversial, but i’ll compare it to the competitor client Steam

we know most ppl got Epic games installed on their devices cuz of the Free weekly games, iam one of them, and this is a great strategic move and they know it

but my concern is how inefficient the launcher is

i just reset my Gaming laptop and reinstalling all the apps again

  • like in the pic, why does the launcher is 0.5GB in size while the full package of Steam is 128MB, not really an issue but the functionality doesn’t justify the size, steam has a Full fledged “Big Picture mode”, community, and controller/steam Redistributables
  • the launcher is annoying in offline mode, why do i have to enter a 2FA from mail every time i exit offline mode?, why does it sometimes just not log in and i have to open the app manually
  • Controller support: Epic games left controller support to the Devs to apply per game, this means more work on the devs side to make their games work with all controllers, this means that some controllers will just not work, alternative fix to that is to use a controller emulator app like x360.exe which with some tuning and time wasted emulates the desired controller into an Xbox 360 controller which is supported by most games,

meanwhile steam have their own dedicated controller config that the dev just adds support to and this configurator will act as the middle man to support all the controllers, this reminded me of the youtuber who used a Racing wheel in Counter Strike, and the next video used a literal potato with an accelerometer and buttons to play the same game with, used that

  • also other general things, interface is more demanding and sometimes lags even on an i9 13900H gaming laptop, app takes more time to open, and generally heavier to run in the background, meanwhile the browser version is just snappy to browse through

Epic Games got a long way to go, i am routing for them
