I’m in the market for a hardware firewall device. Mostly to tinker but i’m also replacing my router so i figured why not buy once cry once.

My isp is Google fiber and I have no need for speeds beyond 1Gbps, so i’m leaning towards Protectli VP2410 or FW4C.

My use case is a family of 4, all streaming or gaming at various times. 3 or 4 1080p Televisions.

My main concern is processing power. I want to know if the VP2410 with 16gb ram would be sufficient to run the following without affecting traffic throughput. Or should I opt for the 2.5gps with the FW4C, and even though its more throughput, is the processor capable to do the following?

The OS will be OPNsense with the following running:

Intrusion detection:

Zenarmor on local, crowdsec on wan.

Vpn:

Openvpn or wireguard

Adblocking:

unbound or adguard.

The wireless AP will be TP-Link EAP615-Wall and a TPlink POE++ injector.

Any help or insights would be great, i’ve been googling and reading but no real first hand experience with any of these. I’m not an IT professional, just someone that tinkers and runs arch (yeah yeah) so i’m good at learning.
