Hello Perth people,

I am desperately hoping someone can give me some advice. I live in Ireland and my brother has been in Australia for just over a year now. He recently had some relationship issues and took it badly. He ended up drinking and we were worried for his safety so we requested a Wellness Check from Australian police.

That was just over 2 days ago. Since then, I have found out my brother was arrested for “his safety” apparently and taken to hospital. He was discharged the following morning and has been held in a watch house awaiting court. Court was this morning but I haven’t heard anything and I’m worried.

I have rang the police station / watch house in Perth but they cannot give me any information over the phone as I need to visit the station with my ID which is impossible given I live thousands of miles away.

I have no idea why he is going to court if police were there for a wellness check.

Can anyone please give me advice on how things work in Australia… particularly if kept in the watch house? I can’t contact my brother and he can’t contact us as the one cal from the police station needs to be a call in state.

He is all on his own and we are so worried.

Thank you
