I (22m) am a single dad to a four year old son. I know that it shouldn’t have happened but it did. His mom didn’t want to be involved and I had to take over. It’s been hard but I’ve made it work.

People stare at me a lot when I’m in public because of how young I am. Usually I just ignore it but today it was more than just staring.

I was buying some clothes for my son so I had him in the basket. Some lady came up to me and asked me if I was his brother and I told her that I’m his dad. She had a disgusted look on her face and started being mean about my son and I. It was really hurtful. I said at least i don’t go around being a jerk and judge people who are trying their best. I also said that my son seems a lot happier than you are.

She made a scene and stormed away. My son started crying so I quickly bought the clothes and left. I was talking to my friend and he told me that I was rude to her and should have just walked away so I’m wondering if I’m in the wrong.
