I have sworn never to buy a motherboard with one of those tiny fans from hell ever again.

However, I am now looking for an ITX AM5 motherboard for my next build and the choices are quite limited…

  • Asus, all three boards have VRM fans so those are just auto skip.
  • ASRock, two fanless budget boards, and one with an M.2 fan.
  • Gigabyte, one fanless budget board, one board with an M.2 fan.
  • MSI, only one board and it has an M.2 fan.

So, if I stick to my no-never-again-self-promise I only have three boards to choose from.

Am I being a bit hard on M.2 fans? Are they quiet with the M.2 slots fully populated and under load?

Has anyone lived with an M.2 fan in a case on their desk and can tell me a bit about it?
