So, we’re in the middle of buying our first home, and things seemed to be going great…until we got the notarial deed.

The notary hands us this document, and to our absolute shock, it states that we were informed the house is in a flooding zone. Not only that, but it claims we were given maps showing the flood risk and that we still agreed to move forward with the purchase.

Here’s the kicker: we NEVER received any maps, and when we specifically asked the agent if there were any flooding issues, he looked us in the eyes and said, “No no, there’s no such history or risk.” We trusted him and signed the compromis de vente based on that information.

Now, this notarial deed says we were supposedly informed, and we’re panicking. We feel totally misled and have no idea what our options are. The house is in a flooding zone and we only just found out…after signing the compromis. Are we stuck with this house? Is this even legal? Can a real estate agent just outright lie like this and get away with it? What can we do? Has anyone else gone through something like this?
