You know those funny little tree shaped air fresheners that one person you know has about 30 of hanging from their rearview mirror? They can help deter spiders in your house/garage!

A common deterent you’ll see peddled online is to use things like lemon or peppermint oil around doors and windows, because spiders dislike the smells (I guess).

Well, those car air fresheners cost a fraction of the price, and do the same amount of heavy lifting, if not more! I had a MASSIVE problem with MASSIVE spiders in my garage (USA massive, so like 1-2 inches across). I tried diatomaceous earth, insect repellent, killing every spider I saw, but nothing helped. Till one day, my wife made me literally throw the new one I had bought out of my car. I picked it up and set it near the door. Ever since, zero spiders (not true, I had a singular tiny jumping spider yesterday).

Is this conflating two events that probably aren’t related? Almost certainly. Does this have any basis in science? Doubtful at best. Will I continue to peddle this myth until ordered to cease and desist by a court of law? So long as the spiders stay out.
