After trying a lot of browsers, I’ve come to the conclusion there is no perfect browser for me, and I should use something that is just good enough, but I could be wrong.
My ideal requirements are these:
Free. I don’t want to pay.
a sidebar as opera (the panels should support extensions), private (not as overkill as TOR but as long as i’m not tracked I don’t care if my OS is sent), PWA support, and as fast as possible.
Here’s a list of some of the browsers I’ve tried
Vivaldi: pretty good overall, but: The sidebar does not support extensions, no (custom) ad block, no dark reader, no userstyles/scripts… Also, I don’t really like the UI, even after theming it, and you cannot drag and drop from the download panel.
Firefox: Some features of some websites I use don’t work, such as Photopea, where you cannot use the local files feature. I would love to use firefox or its forks but…
For that reason Floorp, Pulse, and any other firefox forks are sadly discarted for me.
Opera: Not private, does not support PWAs, cannot use custom search engines unless you use a tampermonkey script
Brave: The sidebar does not have panels at all, so it’s basically a shortcut panel, they have disabled the filesystem feature from Photopea too, but this time for security reasons, tho I really like it’s sync capabilities
Sidekick: I tried this one and it was GREAT, the sidebar worked with extensions perfectly, I liked the UI, it supported both PWAs and websites, maybe a bit slows BUT: after 7 days you need to pay for even the panels to work.
Same with Stack Next, paid, and also it does not support extensions.
Ulaa: great, and the fastest (aside from Google Chrome) according to my testing, but PWAs don’t start after creating them (if I make a PWA it opens correctly, but when I close it and want to open it through the shortcut, or the task bar, it does not open again. Also, does not have a opera-like sidebar
The same PWA bug ocurred with Tempest browser too. If anyone knows a fix, tell me.
Edge: the sidebar does not use extensions either.
Chrome: The fastest according to my testing, but no sidebar and not private at all
Thorium, ungoogled chromium, Tempest: both much slower than Google Chrome. No sidebar either.
Another bug I encountered, in ALL browsers except for Pulse browser, is that discord randomly logs out. Always when I restart the browser, but some times I don’t even need to. In Vivaldi it’s the worst. whenever I close the tab it’s logged out. If there’s a fix for that I would love it
So. Do you know any browser that fits my ideal requirements, or should I use the most similar.
Also, if you know a fix for any of the bugs, I would love to read it too.
