I don’t know if this is the correct subreddit in which to post this, but since it has to do with UFO’s, I thought that it might fit here. I’m pulling all of this from memory, so I might not have to details correctly since I don’t have a written record.
My father served in WWII as a radar operator in the USAAF (he passed away in November 1990). He mostly served on the West coast of the U.S. He was an intelligent man who knew a lot about aviation, especially the fighters from the war. I remember him telling me that on several occasions he witnessed on his watch, radar returns (blips?) that showed something(s) that far exceeded the capabilities of any aircraft of the war. The radar stations were supported by at least P-38 Lightnings interceptors, and he said that they could never get close to whatever was making the radar reflection. Moreover, he said that in addition to the speed of these mysterious blips was the sudden directional changes, going from one altitude to several thousand feet higher in the blink of an eye. He said that when he mentioned such occurrences to the officer in charge, he was always told to just ignore it. I wish that he was still here, not only because I miss him, but I feel that a great deal of history was also lost regarding these occurrences. Again, I don’t know if my post is appropriate for this subreddit, but I thought that I’d share it. He was 67 when he passed away of liver cancer. Just two years older than I am now. How quickly time goes by. Take care. StephS
