Hi all. Years ago I had an interesting encounter that I thought you all might like to hear. Over the summer of 2010 I worked at the Earthquake Lake Visitor Center in Montana. My job was to teach visitors about the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that rocked the area in 1959, causing a massive rock slide, damming up the river and creating Earthquake Lake. Unfortunately, there was a campground located at the site of the rock slide and 28 people died. Some bodies were buried under the rocks and never recovered. A new campground was eventually established on higher ground, but not far from the location of the original. My friend and I chose to camp there one night. We made a fire and hung out and eventually went to sleep. In the morning, I woke up to someone squeezing my shoulder an shaking me, whispering “get up! get up!” in my ear. I sprung up and I was alone in the tent. When I crawled out, my friend was sitting in her car listening to music, as she had woken up before me. I still think about that all the time. I’m not prone to night terrors or anything of the like, and it felt real in a way that dreams typically do not. To this day I don’t know what I was being warned of, but it really stuck with me.

Moral of the story, if you’re ever out in the Gallatin, visit the center and the campground! It’s beautiful and an interesting story, and there are likely spirits who remain there who may be lonely.
