Last night was my first Halloween living in Fort Collins and I have to say that it was unbelievably disappointing. We live in neighborhood in town that is compromised of single-family homes, so we assumed that it would be full of trick-or-treaters. We bought a huge amount of candy in preparation.
All night, we only got 2 trick-or-treaters.
We took a drive to see where everyone was at and we found what must’ve been the whole city trick-or-treating on W. Mountain Ave. Kids were lined up down the sidewalks, waiting forever for candy.
I guess it just seems like there’s a loss of the sense of community that people had when kids trick-or-treated in their own neighborhoods. People knew their neighbors. Our parents never drove us to the “rich” neighborhoods on Halloween and there were no “trunk-or-treats”.
There are obvious exceptions for families who live in multi-family complexes or in rural areas. That is not what I’m talking about here.
