Currently live - Paul is working on a FW13 13th gen Intel Core that’s been liquid damaged on a YouTube live stream. Successful repair? To be determined.

Some people who’ve asked about how to get a damaged Framework motherboard repaired have no doubt seen me mention PS Electronics in Rahway, NJ. Paul worked for Louis Rossmann before Rossmann moved his business to Texas. For family and personal reasons he opted to stay in New Jersey despite - As far as I can recall he and Lous mentioning - Having an offer to move to Texas. I’ve been watching his work for years - Both while working for Rossmann and the last (almost) 2 years on his own… The guy is one of the very few capable of board level repair that I’d recommend.

For the record - I have nothing to do with Paul or his business. Never met the man, never spoken with him outside of possibly a YouTube comment or two in the past.

Edit: The board was salvageable (though Paul planned to do more testing before sending it back to his customer). He was surprised to find Framework using standard chips from Intel (USB C controller), Intersil (power controller), etc which can be easily obtained from DigiKey/Mouser/etc… No need to be hanging out in dark corners of the world as is required to obtain (not always usable) MacBook components. In this instance he pulled a few 10µF caps off a donor MacBook board out of not otherwise having the right ones on hand… Amusing to watch failed MacBook boards being used to revive a damaged Framework motherboard.

Caution: Micro soldering is not for the inexperienced no matter how easy it is to obtain chips/other components or appears to be on YouTube. Anyone who doesn’t have high quality professional tools and previous experience shouldn’t use their one good Framework motherboard to “learn as you go”… Obtain cheap, otherwise garbage boards to learn/practice on - You’ll screw multiple boards up worse than where they started from before (starting, maybe) to figure out what you’re doing. In my own case I know I have neither the vision nor the skills despite watching a number of guys doing this work for years… I can do soldering work in terms of basic electronics but would never attempt board level repair.
