Based on Mike Gold’s testimony yesterday, many have pointed out his interest in promoting NASA. And certainly, part of any Chief Growth Officer’s (like Mike) job is to expand revenue and opportunity. But I also think there was a darker side to his proposals we may be overlooking.
Let’s look at what Mike Gold said in the context of supplanting certain privately funded institutions that are already up and running; most of them outside the sphere of NASA’s (or any US government agency) influence.
NASA as a SOL Foundation replacement
“NASA could with relatively little cost and effort host symposium on UAP or even just participate in existing panels, examining the topic.”
NASA as a MUFON/NUFORC (or even AARO) replacement
“Beyond its existing archives, NASA could act as a clearinghouse for civilian and commercial UAP data.”
NASA as an Americans for Safe Aerospace (Ryan Graves) replacement
“[NASA’s Aviation Safety Reporting System or ASRS]… is administered by NASA and funded by the FAA provides a confidential means for the reporting of safety violations in a voluntary and non-punitive manner.”
NASA as a (Harvard) Galileo Project replacement
“I think tailored instruments that would look at UAP in the same way that we have tailored instruments to look at astronomical data is important to gathering valuable and uniform information.”
Ultimately I can’t help but think Gold’s proposals seem more like a “catch and kill” type operation. NASA taking a bigger role would diminish the influence of these newly established private organizations and help consolidate US government control of the UAP narrative.
IMHO we don’t really know the motivations of NASA. Sure, it might be an academic motivation entirely as Mike suggests. But OTOH we have 50+ years of NASA working closely with the US intelligence apparatus. We know that NASA refused a UFO inquiry from Jimmy Carter in the 1970s. More recently, NASA administrator Bill Nelson publicly disparaged David Grusch’s testimony as simply “having a friend who knew where a warehouse was”.
I think we have reason to believe NASA isn’t being fully transparent about UAP despite Mike Gold’s claims. We need less consolidation under NASA’s umbrella, not more.
