With eu4 likely never getting anymore updates, with eu5 in production, I wonder, is Eu4 in the best state it has ever been? I used to playit a lot in its first 6 years and stoped more or less after. But now I came back to play it more frequently. So I wonder, is there a point in time you thought the game was overall in a better state then now?

I’m not sure I think its just nostalgia but I feel like at some point I found it to be more polished but i think thats just a feeling. But some things I dont like in the current state of eu4 are:

-technology spreading to even across the world and with that comes too strong asian empires, which makes colomizing stuff like india hard especially for the ai (which it used to do)

-colonizing is way too quick, everyone knows about that

-ottomans are too strong, I dont like having to kill them always early game if you dont want to face 300k men in 1550

-Mission trees are way to op and railroad the player as well as the ai. I know that very controversial since most players love them. But i always love the sandbox part of eu4 which this kinda ruins. And yes they are just too powerful especially the new ones.

-expansion is too quick, I know, most will think thats crazy but I preferd when you had to be more careful with expansion, creating longer and more thougthfull games instead of snowballing as quickly and ending the game by mid 16th century.

There were obviously so many great features added in the las years, I dont want to overlook that, but it’s just way easier to see what you dont like and think about what used to be better. And now after writing this, I’m even less sure if it ever was better. But it for sure is a crazy enjoyable game!

Would love to hear other eu4 enjoyers opinions!
