My boyfriend of over a decade and I like to split everything 50/50. It’s the way we’ve always done things, though sometimes I solely pay for more frivolous things, such as takeaway meals or Uber, since he likes to be careful with money (he’s from a working class background) and I was raised to be more altruistic (middle class background). He earns more than twice the amount I earn (I’m a freelancer so on a pretty low income), so I was wondering if it’s still fair to pay for things 50/50?

ETA: Using the term “altruism” because I’ll pay for Ubers and takeaways that both of us use. It’s not just me using them. My partner just doesn’t like to pay for things like that, but still uses them when I pay.
