I’m thinking we need to consider a community run circuit this year. Someone like Wardii has traditionally run invitationals periodically. Tossing his own money and sponsors into the pot. All online.
Maybe a schedule of weekly or biweekly online regional events can be planned. Then those are used as qualifiers for a quarterly tournament. Also online, or if it’s possible to just glom onto something like Dreamhack go for it.
Then there is just the World Championship. Community fund it like they were doing GSL.
I also think we could look into skins, portraits, or something to sell for support. People loved buying those skins in the War Chest. I bet the format for the skins is well known and someone in the community can put together skins. Then they are sold offline and we just need the Blizzard intern to push them out and activate for the right accounts. We’d have a full year to figure out the details. Hell, email Phil Spencer and I bet he could make that little bit happen since all the work would be done externally by the community to keep his game alive.
Thoughts?
