It’s been a few months since I’ve finished the show and from time to time I still think about how well done it was. Reading the synopsis of the show before starting it I was a bit skeptical about it possibly keeping me engaged throughout since I wasn’t a big fan of Mad Men or Deadwood (blasphemy, I know), but this show really was amazing at developing characters, relationships, etc.

I almost immediately knew the writing was fantastic coming from finishing season 2 of From where I was furious with writing choices that included forced drama and my personal pet peeve in shows where characters withhold information from each other and that causes plot points, etc. To me, in a world like From, that just doesn’t make sense.

Then there was a point in Season 1 in HaCF where one of the characters can easily succumb to a very common and cliche trope in media where the neglected housewife cheats on her overworked husband with the person at work who is giving her a bit of attention yadda yadda. But they surprised the absolute shit out of me and it did not happen. I was shocked, I’ve never seen that before. Characters are communicating with each other? We want our marriage to work?

From there on out, the writers did a fantastic job of crafting like 6 different character arcs that I cared about. Protagonists turning to antagonists and vice versa, they somehow made me care about every single character in that show and what happened and what was happening with them and how their relationships were being affected, etc. All of the cast acted their asses off, the writing was awesome, the side characters were great, there was good comic relief, and then I finally cried during a show/movie. I never cry during anything, and this show finally made me do it.

I think we’re blessed it wasn’t cancelled, because I heard it was close…
