I recently impulse purchased a refurbished 1TB Steam Deck directly from Valve, and I wanted to share my experience since I initially had a lot of questions that I couldn’t find any real clear answers for online. Spoiler: It’s essentially like buying a brand-new one but at a fraction of the cost.
Valve does a fantastic job with their refurbishment process. Here’s what you get:
- The Steam Deck itself (of course). My unit is flawless – no scratches, dents, or signs of previous use.
- The official carrying case – the same as the new model, which for the 1TB also includes the special carrying case with the liner.
- The power brick + cable and even the extra microfiber cloth.
- The full Valve warranty, so you’re covered just like you would be with a brand-new unit.
Performance-wise, it’s everything you’d expect from a Steam Deck with no compromises. Even the power brick on my unit is flawless.
If you’re on the fence about going refurbished, I’d say go for it. The savings are significant (my cost was going to be $697 new after tax and i ended up paying $560), and you’re not sacrificing anything in terms of quality or functionality. Valve’s refurbishment process ensures it feels and works like new. I had a lot of initial questions about whether it was the real “1TB OLED experience” and i can report it absolutely is.
Would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a Steam Deck without breaking the bank!
