Glasses, Rank 21 B-Class hero, a former fubuki group member who appears in chapter 20.6 of opm and Episode 22 of opm season 2. He is one of the people to recognize saitamas true strength. and id like to talk about his growth and how "hopefully" he would become the next "One Punch Man" or at least, what saitama really wanted to be.

He is a splitting image of saitamas younger years where he still trained and even a similar humble beginnings as exhausted salarymen. This was obviously all intentional by murata and one as a counterpart to saitama which is another reason why i think he will be the next "One Punch Man"

In a similar fashion, their backstories both start off as them being normal, either having a lackluster job or being unemployed both wanting to escape their mundane lives and find purpose. Which is an important trait for both characters on their path to being strong, ill explain:

Glasses sees an interview of Amai mask, Amai talks about beauty being an important part of being a hero, glasses is seen to be nonchalant. This characteristic sets him apart from most heroes, whereas they are selfish seeking fame, money, power, Glasses tired of being stagnant desires more than that.

Hero life seems to be as cruel to him, he folds in to peer pressure due to his lack of confidence. And because of that he still gets pushed around by his comrades at fubuki group, he doesnt stand up for himself and loses points which is a similar characteristic to saitama when he was unemployed, willingly accepting death to crablante.

Though, this is where their backstories differ. Glasses meets Fubuki and Tatsumaki, both born with psychic abilities, embodiments of "innate talent" he comes to the conclusion that hard work isnt enough and you must be born with talent, powers, beauty. Which sums up his entire character, he feels normal, a nameless salaryman, a nameless newbie, he feels he isnt special.

If not for saitama, his character of self loathing, hatred, weakness would forever stay. We see him share his way of thinking to saitama. "Dont get yourself killed out of admiration for heroes" in other words, heroes are cool but you cant be one if you arent special. He believes that you can only be a npc if you were born as one, it is determined at birth, not by how hard you work.

Saitama one punches the monster. Immediately we see Glasses hypothesize the source of his strength, genes? mutation? drugs? wealth? still refusing to believe that hard work would get you anywhere. i especially love saitamas quote: "Could the you tomorrow beat you today?"

and again, saitama actually proves his point, how? by being NORMAL. thats the thing about saitama, most heroes and people think hes ordinary, he doesnt stand out at all, but are shocked by his strength. its not shock from "hes strong!!!" but shock from "this normal guy is THAT strong??"

Glasses continues to work hard, eventually leaving Fubuki group and finding his own means of strength while also ranking up quite a lot. Id definitely say he Saitamas true disciple, he believed him, hes working hard going down the same path as saitama, you dont need to be his lackey or pupil to be strong, you dont need to join a group, or have talent and powers. If all you can do is work hard and train then its no problem, the fruits of your efforts, sacrifices will show in the end. This is for you too, if anyone had read this. Work hard!
