Just hit 6500 MMR, and wow, Immortal Draft is as bad as they say. Here’s why.
I recently crossed the 6500 MMR threshold and unlocked the infamous Immortal Draft system. After just a few games, I can confidently say that all the complaints you’ve heard are completely justified. Here’s what I’ve observed so far:
1. Win Trading:
In two of my games, I noticed a party where one player was on Radiant and the other on Dire. You can probably guess what happened to one of their K/Ds—it was blatantly obvious.
2. Language Barriers:
Communication is crucial in Dota, but I’ve encountered a significant number of players speaking languages I don’t understand. What’s worse, there’s often zero effort to adapt, even for simple callouts. I get that this goes both ways, but can we all agree that a little basic English would go a long way on western EU servers?
3. Ego Clashes:
Role queue used to enforce some semblance of order, but in Immortal Draft, games are often lost before they begin due to arguments over who gets to play mid or carry. It’s like people forget they’re part of a team.
4. Incentive for Smurfing:
I spoke with a couple of other English-speaking players, and they admitted they’re considering creating smurfs just to climb to Immortal again on a different role. Why? Because Immortal Draft sucks the fun out of the game.
5. It’s Not a Small Problem:
Due to MMR inflation, roughly 3.5% of players are now in this category. That’s a significant portion of the community impacted by these issues.
TL;DR: Immortal Draft is awful because of win trading, language barriers, ego clashes, and its tendency to encourage smurfing. With around 3.5% of players affected, it’s a problem that shouldn’t be ignored and SHOULD be fixed ASAP.
