Randomly stumbled upon this subreddit and a Youtube channel HardwareHaven and 2 weeks later here we are.

  • Dell Latitude 7250 without screen - i5 5300u, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD - headless Ubuntu24 + CasaOS
  • Xiaomi 4C Router

Total cost: around 50 euros, probably less

I am only running Pi-hole at the moment but I am already so amazed what a little effort and little money can do. I know it’s a shitty router but my internet providers one is quite locked down so I can’t even change DNS settings so I’m using this Xiaomi one until I figure out something better, but my internet is only 60MBit/s so I feel like the router is not a bottleneck atm.
