I was photographing my friend last night and everything was going fine until this image showed up on the screen. It wasn’t there for most of the shoot, but as soon as it appeared my flash started going off by itself. I’ve shot hundreds of photos with my flashes and I have never had them go off by themselves as the only way to trigger them is via the camera or by pressing a button on the flash itself*. My friend and I decided to leave immediately after seeing the flash go off by itself a few times.

When we got home, I showed him the video embedded in this post. Given the nature of the shoot, I thought it was a demon, but I’m not well-versed in demons at all. Could this be something like that? I wish I got video of the flash triggering by itself. I’m going to go back and finish the shoot soon so if it goes off by itself again I will record it.

I feel like it is important to mention that I was intentionally trying to create a visual representation of demons, which is why I was so scared. My version of the demons looked different, though. They looked like this, not like what you see in the video, which is why you see the black bodysuit and then the image of whatever shows up on camera.

*Technically you can also set flashes to master/slave mode and activate a flash with another flash, but we only had one flash out there so we weren’t using that.
