I lived in a semi-detached house, and my next door neighbours had an old little jack russell. They didn’t treat her right, she was left in the back garden all night, and frequently she would bark continuously. For a period of time, I had bad insomnia so I have spent literal hours of my life listening to this dog bark. My point is that I knew the exact sound of it (she got raspy as she got older), and I could pinpoint the sound coming from their back garden.

One day, my mother (who was friendly with the neighbours grandmother) came in and told me the bad news. Neighbour’s dog was dead. I was upset because she was a sweet thing, but I was also surprised. I said something like: “Oh no, when did it happen ? I heard her barking just last night.” My mum looked at me weird and said that I must’ve imagined it because she had died almost a week ago. I straight up couldn’t believe this as I had heard her distinctive bark clear as day, so I ended up messaging my neighbour who confirmed she’d died about 5 days prior.

I believe in the paranormal but I’m also skeptical so I don’t know what to think. I told my friend and she laughed and said it was another dog, but it sounded exactly like her and came from their back garden. I mean, I fell asleep to her barking almost every night, so part of me thinks maybe my brain was filling in the sound when she died. But there were nights when she would be quieter as well, so I’m not sure. Just thought I would share this and see if anyone had a reasonable explanation.
