Hi everyone!
Sorry if this isn’t the best sub to post this question, but I thought it was worth a try ^^‘’
I’m preparing a PhD thesis project on depictions of masculinity in New Adult literature. My thesis statement is that, while male characters from stories in this genre are often considered to offer positive, “non-toxic” depictions of masculinity, in reality they still embody many aspects of what traditional masculinity would consider desirable for men to embody.
Now, as I’m gathering texts to provide a theoretical framework to support my analysis, it occurs to me that my corpus sorely lacks male authors. I’ve read a lot on masculinity and men’s issues as written by women; in the past, I confess I was kinda prejudiced against men’s issues debates as done by men, because the only men I knew doing that were the likes of Jordan Peterson and other manosphere “icons.” It wasn’t until recently that I found channels that discuss masculinity/men’s issues in a constructive way; FD Signifier in particular has been such an eye-opener *.*
But I’d like more references, especially academic ones (I’m not sure my uni’s English-Language Literature department will appreciate a thesis project with too many youtubers listed as reference ^^‘’). Male authors that discuss depictions of masculinity in literature, TV or film would be great, but I’ll be a very happy PhD candidate with male authors that debate masculinity and men’s issues in general <3
Thanks in advance!
