Teams cannot be forced to participate in Hard knocks if they meet any of these three criteria:

• they’ve appeared on Hard Knocks in the past ten years
• they have a first-year head coach
• they reached the playoffs in either of the past two seasons

These four teams are the only ones that meet the requirements.
