I, 64 y/o male, divorced my son’s mother in 2009 when he was 14 years old. I will call my son Charlie. When Charlie turned 18, as is the norm, the child support that I paid every month was scheduled to end. However, Charlie’s mother, who is a social worker, had him declared a “Destitute Adult Child” and I was ordered to continue to pay $1100 a month in child support to Charlie. Charlie was diagnosed with anxiety and ADD when he was a child, he is also very high-functioning and has a very high IQ. Charlie is now 28 years old. He has graduated from college. Does not take his recommended anxiety meds, refuses to get a job, and continues to live with his mother. We are scheduled to go to court in two weeks to revisit the child support situation. I think enough is enough, and my child support is just enabling him. Am I the asshole for not wanting to pay my son’s “Child Support”?
