The PSC approved Pepco’s increased supply rates starting this summer. This is for the actual price of energy, not the additional fee Pepco charges to deliver said energy over their lines. The average residential customer will see a ~17.7% increase ($20) per bill.

Pepco is pointing to the following for increased energy costs:

  • Retirement of generating facilities across the regional electric wholesale market
  • More electric wholesale market rules (helping to ensure that generating plants are available when needed)
  • Increasing requirements for renewable energy
  • Increasing demand for electricity by new, high-usage regional data centers

While PJM has been notorious for slow-walking interconnection of renewable projects to the grid, you can find the full approval/rates here in FC 1017, Order No. 22412: https://edocket.dcpsc.org/apis/api/Filing/download?attachId=222614&guidFileName=fce7d626-c5d5-4321-ba57-40dde8406dee.pdf
