I guess people also call it functional strength, sometimes old man strength.

I have an uncle in his mid 40s, about 6’2" and 220ish but quite doughy. I go to the gym with him sometimes and he hates lifting weights, he mostly just does a little cardio. He honestly struggles to bench press 135 more than say 3-4 times. He’s flat out weak when it comes to weights.

I have a cousin that’s in his early 30s, probably about 5’10" and 180ish. But he’s quite fit, lifts weights, and also just started BJJ classes.

Recently at the family BBQ my uncle and cousin started horsing around, and my cousin offered to show him some BJJ moves. Surprisingly my uncle was throwing him around like a child. It was super bizarre because I know how weak in the weight room my uncle is. I mean he is physically quite larger, but does that really matter when the strength and age favors my cousin?
