Leaving the church was a big decision for me that I did not take lightly. And based on the discussions I see here on r/exmormon I would assume most of you went through a similar process. But at work I’ve been talking with a lot of the other exmormons who I expected to relate to and have common experiences and opinions with. But they don’t seem to have put that much thought into leaving, saying it’s “just not for me” but don’t really disbelieve it either. And I wonder if these are the people who give exmos the reputation of being “lazy learners” who “fall away from the church”. Do you guys know people like this? Do you think it’s more common for people to “fall away” than it is to make a conscious effort to leave? I have one sibling and a few close friends who are like me and tend to analyze all the aspects of the church and are very deliberate in our choices but it sets a different expectation for the exmos I meet in the wild because they just don’t seem to relate. What are your thoughts?
