A Garland for Suggs trade would make sense for both teams as the Magic desperately need offense around Paolo and Franz, while the Cavs need a better backcourt defender to pair with Spida.
Garland’s history of playoff struggles, even while dealing with injuries this year, makes him a bit unreliable to deem apart of their long term core now, especially as they look to go all in with a great duo of Spida and Mobley plus an excellent supporting cast.
The Magic shouldn’t be overly concerned about Garland’s playoff struggles as they’d be less reliant on him offensively than the Cavs were.
He’d be their second or third option offensively, depending on how Franz is playing and can afford to have a reduced impact in scoring.
He couldn’t afford to have a reduced offensive impact relative to his potential role in Orlando on the Cavs. His defensive deficiencies meant he had to be awesome offensively to offset his negative defensive impact.
Orlando can easily cover for him on defense, even if they trade Suggs since they have a ton of good to great defenders in Cole Anthony, Anthony Black, Paolo, Issac, Goga, KCP, even if he’s noticeably washed now, and Da Silva.
