Was thinking back on the times when I would scour the car magazines and read performance tests. 0-60 was a big deal. When comparing cars of the same class, you could sort of tell what sort of personality the car would have by checking out the test data. Which was the straight line bruiser and maybe which gave up some of that in favor of better handling and braking.
Today everything is fast. Even normal cars are posting fast acceleration numbers due to power and efficiency, but also some “trickery” in a way. I feel like modern transmissions are the unsung hero in many cars’ rapid acceleration figures. Less slushbox, more dual clutch. I think I remember Porsche stating early on that PDK shaved almost a full second over tiptronic.
If all cars are fast and EVs seem to be just adding to that, do headlines like this even matter anymore? Maybe I’m just getting older and jaded.
