I noticed when rewatching all the Mission Impossible films that the first 1996 entry was fairly down to earth, with Ethan fighting to clear his name and protect the agency. Whereas most of the sequels put the entire world at risk of nuclear obliteration or a bio-weapon that would kill billions. What are some good movies that flip the convention and don’t raise the stakes to higher and higher levels in their sequels?
