I’m sitting in a cafe in a nice town just outside the city. A woman in her seventies asked me to get her an uber to the hospital a few towns away, also outside the city. (no other information offered)

The city is easily accessible from here by public transport and there’s excellent hospitals there, so she wasn’t just scamming for a free ride to the city.

The hospital to which she wanted transport is not easily accessible by public transportation and 10 miles opposite direction of the city, so it’s reasonable someone would need help getting there.

I ended up calling her a cab (so I wouldn’t be liable for any incidents in the uber) and prepaid with cash.

I don’t mind and I don’t feel scammed - either I helped a vulnerable old lady get to an appointment, or she redirected and went wherever she could get for $35. I could afford it, not a big deal, and it wasn’t a “just need $16 for a bus ticket to Buffalo” situation. Plus, I was born at that hospital, so I had a bit of a soft spot lmao.

I’m just curious if her request for an uber was angling for something beyond a free ride that I didn’t think of.
