I’m sorry if a similar experience was already posted but I want to share this to warn others. To start off, I want to share that I answer all the phone calls which appear to come from my area code since I’ve been dealing with a medical issue and has been getting referred to one doctor to another, so this morning, I got a call from a local phone no. thinking it would be another doctor but instead an automated message came on to say there has been an unauthorized purchase on my Amazon account and was asked to press a no. to talk to a live agent.
Since I maintain 2 Amazon accounts, 1 personal and 1 business, I assumed they were referring to the business one which I share with a colleague and maybe it was a mistake on my colleague’s end (we both purchase office supplies and one time she did put a personal purchase on the business account). I got a live agent and he said it was for an iPhone 13 for $600 and at this point I suspected something was up because my colleague is an Android user through and through (although she’s expressed interest in getting a new device) so I wanted to end the call by saying “Just block the transaction!” and the agent said he needed to verify information.
I knew it was a potential scam so I said, “All you need to do is block the transaction, why would you need anything else from me?” The agent knew he wasn’t going to make a victim out of me so he said something truly vulgar I can’t even post here. It’s really said people resort to these things and I’m sure since Amazon is so common that they will get a victim or two who do not suspect anything. Please be careful! And hopefully these scammers will get off their lazy ***** and find a legal way to earn money!
