A 17-year-old got caught by security trying to pay for chocolate as if it was a cheaper sort of candy. Police was called, who after already handcuffing the teen, slammed him hard against the wall.

Without the video evidence he would not have faced any repercussions, because in the court hearing both he and the store guard claimed the teen just sort of swung somewhat faster than intended when he was pulled up from the table where he was handcuffed. The guard even claimed the teen didn’t hit the wall at all and “sort of slipped and ended up on the floor somewhat”.

Even the police chief tried to cover this up, reminding the interviewer that “the suspect (i.e. the officer quilty of the assault) is under no obligation to stick to the truth in court”, not addressing the guard lying in a court testimony at all, and saying he “can’t and doesn’t want to answer” when asked if it would nevertheless be good of the police to be truthful in the accounts of their own actions on duty.

I’m sickened, but at least as a silver lining most comments on the article were also condemning the entire affair and mocking any commenters who were on the officer’s side.
